Operated in the same way as disc brake pads with a simple squeeze on the brake lever located on the handlebars, rim brake pads have the same role of stopping the bike, they just go about it in a different way. Rather than creating pressure on the rotors like disc brake pads, a set of rim brake pads create friction on the rotating rim of the wheel to help bring it to a stop.

Predominantly used on city and road bikes, rim brake pads are lighter than disc brake pads and help to save weight; allowing the bike to be more streamlined and - most importantly - faster.
