Warranty
What is covered under warranty
Most bikes and components are covered under warranty by the manufacturer. What is and isn’t covered can vary for each manufacturer so it’s important to check what each one offers.
Frames are usually warrantied for approximately 2-5 years and often lifetime warranties are offered if frames are registered. If this is offered, you can do this by visiting the manufacturers website and registering your bike after you have purchased the bike. This timeframe of warranty is determined by the manufacturer. To view the details of a brands specific bike frame warranties, please choose a brand from the list below to be directed to their website where you can view up to date information.
Component warranties usually vary from 6 months to 3 years, these are specific to the manufacturer and details can be found in the product manuals or, on the manufacturer’s website. E-bike batteries and motors typically have a 2 year warranty but this can vary depending on the brand. Please check in the product manual or on the brands website for up-to-date info.
What isn’t covered
It’s important to understand that bicycle warranties, like most warranties, have limitations. Below is a list of scenarios that are not covered under warranty, this list is not exhaustive but highlights the main situations where bicycle or component warranties don’t apply:
Normal Wear and Tear - This includes worn tires, brake pads, chains, and cassettes. These parts naturally degrade with use.
Accidental Damage - Damage from crashes, falls, or collisions is generally not covered.
Improper Maintenance - Lack of regular servicing, lubrication, or cleaning can void a warranty.
Incorrect Assembly - Damage caused by improper assembly, whether by the owner or an unauthorized mechanic.
Modifications - Altering the bike or its components from their original specifications.
Misuse or Abuse - Using the bike for purposes it wasn't designed for, such as extreme off-road riding with a road bike.
Neglect - Leaving the bike exposed to harsh weather conditions, leading to rust or corrosion.
Damage from Improper Storage - Storing the bike in a way that causes damage, such as excessive heat or moisture.
Damage from Improper Cleaning - Using high-pressure washers or harsh chemicals that damage components.
Installation of Non-Original Parts - Using non manufacturer approved parts.
Stripped Threads - Damage to threads on components from improper installation.
Stripped Pedal Threads - Damage to pedal threads is not covered, and it's essential to remember that pedal threads are right and left specific, requiring correct installation.
Damage from overtightening - Damage to components caused by excessive force when tightening bolts.
Electric bike "derestricting" - Modifying e-bike software to bypass speed limits.
