The Garmin Edge 1000 performance bundle has all the same features as the unit only option but with the inclusion of HRM3 heart rate monitor, speed/cadence sensors and Garmin out front mount.
After almost 15 months in planning the Edge 1000 is finally ready for release. As well as sharing many of the features that come with the Edge Touring and 810 models the Edge 1000 focuses on fast segment times and offers bike specific navigation and mapping capabilities and the ability to display your current gear if you run a Shimano Di2 electronic shift system with D-Fly Data Management.

With so many great features to talk about there probably isn't enough room on this page so below is a list of all the new features and what they include:

The Edge 1000 is taller than the previous 810 model but only slightly wider. As well as the screen size being increased the resolution has also been increased. The icons are much clearer and are labelled for ease of use. Pages can be customised to show the information you want and an ambient light sensor for riding at night.

Shimano Di2 gearing information:

The Edge 1000 will communicate with the recently announced Shimano D-Fly Data Management Function. This accessory will plug in to your existing Di2 units and transmit the gearing data via private ANT to the Garmin Edge 1000.

Incoming call and text notifications:

Yes you have read that right, call and text notifications to your Garmin device. The unit will display alerts coming from your iOS device for incoming calls and texts. This will enable you to see that someone is calling or that a text has arrived, although it will not enable any scenario to answer the call or respond to the text. This pairing is done via Bluetooth and the rider must have the phone on them for it to work.

Segment real time challenges:

Garmin Connect will soon introduce the ability to create segments, and with it, the ability to race those segments in real time. These segments will work similar to Strava segments (not compatible with Strava segments), in that they typically define a short chunk of roadway that riders virtually compete on. Planning rides using segments on Garmin Connect will not be available immediately but will be added through software updates in the near future.

WiFi, ANT+ A and Bluetooth capabilities:

Like previous models the Edge 1000 supports mobile uploads and live tracking using Bluetooth to android and iOS devices as well as uploading completed activities of completed activities via WiFi.These connections will be set up using the new Garmin Express (new desktop software) which then automatically connects the unit when in range of them. You can save various WiFi networks, and select up to three networks to be preferred.

Full and detailed maps now included:

The unit included all of the round-trip routing features and course creation capabilities but also the base map sets which means you don't need to buy any additional maps to use the unit although optional maps can be added.

Whether you are looking to buy your first Garmin or upgrade an older model then the Edge 1000 is the one to go for. With all of the great features of the 810 and the added new features this really is the most advanced cycle computer currently on the market.
