	Roll Faster - Go Further The crux of a 29'er (29" wheeled MTB) is its ability to roll better over terrain than a 26" wheeled counterpart due to a decreased attack angle (the wheel curve transitions more gradually from vertical to horizontal) and a larger tyre contact patch to help you float over, rather than dig into loose surfaces, rocks and roots; preserving momentum and giving a faster, smoother ride. What was previously a niche product has become part of the mainstream thanks to significant exposure from the World Cup XC race series, and with a number of major bike and component manufacturers throwing their weight behind the concept - they are set to become a much more common sight out on the trails. Ideal for very tall riders who struggle with the frame geometry of standard mountain bikes, the bigger wheels of a 29er position the axles higher, allowing for a lower centre of gravity without the risks associated with running a low bottom bracket. Yet as with everything there are disadvantages to go with the advantages; increased wheel flex renders them unsuitable for more aggressive AM / DH riding at present, steering input is invariably slower resulting in reduced manoeuvrability and with bigger frames and wheels overall bike weight will always be higher. The question remains; do the disadvantages outweigh the advantages? Unfortunately we have no definitive answer but urge you to consider one when shopping for your next bike and decide for yourself, it might just be a revelation...

Scott Scale 29 Team
An upgrade to Rockshox's XC32 Coil forks provides the Scott Scale 29 Team with much greater composure over rough and technical descents thanks to an improved damper and adjustable rebound control, whilst the addition of a PopLoc remote allows you to lockout the forks from the handlebars to increase efficiency during climbing and fire-road sections. Elsewhere Shimano's proven M446 hydraulic disc brakes give dependable performance in all conditions and a set of higher quality Rocket Ron's from the Schwalbe 'performance series' give greater puncture protection, lower rolling resistance and a more supple ride.

Scott Spark 29 Comp
Brand new for the 2012 season and is based upon the 2nd Generation of Scott's multiple award and podium winning cross country race machine - the Spark 29 Comp offers 100mm of suspension travel, and a contemporary geometry; making it ideally suited to cross country, marathons, multi-day stage races, and all day fun. The X-Fusion E1 Air shock brings the spark down to the entry level and allows the rider to lockout the travel (accessible via the handlebar mounted TwinLoc lever) to suit the terrain ahead.

Mondraker Podium 29
Mondraker approached the challenge of making a 29er with one primary goal, to make them feel as much like their 26" wheeled bikes as possible through use of a carefully developed geometry. The Podium 29er uses extensively hydroformed M-LITE aluminium to save weight where possible and give an industrial aesthetic that clearly links it to the rest of the Mondraker range. The addition of a tapered headtube and FSA 386 (Press Fit 30) bottom bracket shell provide a larger weld surface and increase stiffness to aid in power transfer and steering precision.

Intense Spider 29 Frameset
The new Spider 29 utilises the lauded 2nd generation VPP suspension platform found on the standard Spider but brings the unique riding characteristics of big wheels to the table. As with all of Intense's full suspension models, it's manufactured in California by an exceptionally skilled workforce and features adjustable travel (between 4.25" - 4.75") and pivot mounted grease ports for significantly easier bearing maintenance. You also get a full 1.5" headtube and 135/142mm rear axle compatibility with the Intense G1 interchangeable dropout system - features that are not often seen in this class, yet allow you to build the Spider 29 up exactly how you want, and easily adapt it in future. Intense Tracer T29 Frameset
At a quick glance The Tracer T29 doesn't look remarkably different from the previous incarnation, but the devil is truly in the detail; Travel has increased slightly to either 5.75" or 6.25" (145 or 160mm), whilst the a full 1.5" headtube allows you to run any steerer variation or even a Cane Creek Angleset if you want to play around with the geometry. The rear triangle is now asymmetric, with a new yoke & lower link design for greater mud clearance and the 'boxstay' seatstay bridge for improved lateral stiffness, whilst also gaining the Intense G2 dropout system which future-proof's the bike. The Tracer 2 is about as cutting edge as you can get, with everything you could possibly want from a trail bike underpinned by one of the best suspension platforms on the market.
