Designed primarily to offer maximum traction, the aggressive tread and high-volume casing of the Maxxis Ardent 29er doesn’t neglect the needs of the big-wheeled racer (or anyone who can't resist chasing down the rider in front); with large block-style side knobs offering numerous edges for surefooted high-speed cornering that inspires confidence and allows you to push the bike harder. The centre tread is ideal for braking and accelerating traction, but also features ramped knobs to minimize rolling resistance. Available in a number of different sizes and versions, the Ardent captures every mountain rider’s needs.

Technologies (Not Applicable To All Models)

UST
Universal Standard for Tubeless (UST) is a technology that integrates a unique square bead with a UST specific rim/wheel. As the tyre is inflated, the tyre locks into place and creates uninterrupted air retention, eliminating the need for a traditional inner tube.

EXO Protection
An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tires. This densely woven material is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected.

Compound
The most important part of a tyre is arguably the rubber compound within the tread, by changing the amounts of various components of the rubber formula, Maxxis engineers are able to make two identical looking tires perform completely differently. Measured using a Shore A Durometer rating; the higher the number, the harder (and more durable) the tyre will be. Maxxis produce tyres in 70a (hardest), 62a, 60a and 'Super Tacky' 42a compounds, allowing you to select the best version for each and every application.

Known and trusted by millions of customers around the world, Maxxis offers an expansive range of road and mountain bike tyres (alongside tyres for cars and light trucks, bicycles, motorcycles, ATVs, trailers, karts, and lawn and garden care machines), many of which are the default choice of a number of professional riders across all disciplines.

Founded in Taiwan in 1967, and today one of the largest produces worldwide, Maxxis operate in Asia, Europe, North America and South America; distributes its products in approximately 170 countries and employing more than 22,000 people.

Great tyre 28 Aug 2013
By Nouveau
I've spent years using low profile tyres like the Maxxis Larsen and Crossmark, but was finding I needed something more for steep and muddy trails. I had a few bad experiences with tyres from Schwalbe (Racing Ralph- urrrgg, Rocket Ron- actually dangerous) and Conti (X King- OK but nothing that special), but the Ardent has been what I'm looking for. Still fast, light-ish and decent on built trails, but offers proper, reassuring grip, both when leaning corners and with all your weight forward on steep stuff, these are great. Only thing was that I managed to buy a wire version when I wanted kevlar. No idea how, but I'll use the extra weight as a training aid.
