Q & A

What happens to a bike when it has won a couple of World Championships and finished atop the podium in Kona? You make it even better, that's what!

Plasma Team Issue:

Scott have completely redesigned the Plasma Team Issue to not only make it more aerodynamically sound, but also to make it faster with a moving rider on it than without. Next level adjustability, fuel storage and integration make the Plasma Premium not just a bike, but rather a well-oiled machine with one intention and one intention only - the top step. Built around a HMX TT carbon frame and fork the Plasma Premium is packed full of great features and components to give you an extra advantage which could be the difference between winning and losing a race. With a bike of this standard you expect the best possible components and that is exactly what you get. Firstly Scott have equipped the Plasma Premium with a SRAM Red22 mechanical groupset which combined with the 11-26 tooth cassette provides a great range of gears for TT/Tri racing. The bike rolls on Zipp carbon wheels with 404 up front and 808 at the back to give the perfect combination for open road aerodynamics, and using Zipp's Firecrest technology, effectively reduce drag and also go a long way to negate crosswinds. No TT bike is complete without an aerodynamic cockpit and the Plasma Premium features one of the best money can buy including Profile Plasma 5 handlebar/stem and Profile T5 aerobar with integrated aero drink holder.

Plasma 5 technologies:

1) Plasma 5 aero drink - The aero drink features a clip-on connection that ensures a firm fixation to the stem and allows for installation and removal of the bottle in a matter of seconds.

2) Storage box - The storage box features a removable divider and sufficient space for up to 8 energy bars/gels.

3) Integrated front and rear brakes - While a standard Shimano direct-mount rear brake has been properly integrated below the bottom bracket, a proprietary front brake was developed. The low design and aerodynamic shape ensure compatibility with the front brake cover, while an improved leverage ratio and a rigid construction assure reliable and consistent braking power. The fork features two interfaces that allow for the installation of any direct mount or standard brake caliper.

4) UCI compliant - The Plasma 5 frame and fork with both TT and Triathlon stem configuration is fully UCI-compliant. However, the Plasma 5 aero drink and teh storage box have been designed to cover the specific needs of triathletes and are not UCI-compliant.

Plasma Series:

The Scott Plasma series have been designed specifically for TT and triathlon use. The Plasma range have been designed to enable an aerodynamic fusion between rider and bike. Be it an aerodynamic frame design that takes in to consideration the interaction between a moving rider and his bike, an ergonomically and purpose driven handlebar that offers a wide range of adjustability or the practical implementation of nutrition storage, the Plasma range takes extra steps to make bike and rider one. With four bikes in the collection ranging from the entry level Plasma 20 through to the Plasma Team Issue there is something to suits everyones needs and budget. Each bikes comes equipped with a 22-speed drivetrain ranging from Shimano 105 through to Dura Ace and SRAM Red22. As you would expect with any aero bike the Plasma range have all been tested in the wind tunnel so you can be guaranteed that with the aerodynamic profile and top of the range components you will be getting one of the best TT/Tri bikes on the market with the Scot Plasma!

Plasma design process:

1) Tube shape design
2) Theoretical airfoil drag measurement
3) Airfoil design performance assessment
4) Tube shape result analysis
5) Tube shape designs benchmarking
6) Wind tunnel testing
7) Selection or tube shape improvement
