Scott Foil 30

The Scott Foil was desgined extensively within the Mclaren Wind tunnel but unlike many other aero inspired road bikes the Foil was always tested with a person or manequin on the bike as well as two bottle cages and bottle to optimise aerodynamics for the end user. Unlike other aero bikes the Scott Foil is a true jack of all trades as the aero shape although giving the user an advantage over a standard frame on flat out stages also keeps up with its slimmer framed competitors up hill due to the Foil's lightweight and incredbly stiff construction.

Frame / Fork: HMF-NET IMP Aero Carbon Frame And Fork

Components: SRAM Rival groupset, Scott And Richey Finishing Kit

Wheels: Mavic Cosmic Wheelset

Weight: 7.40 kg / 16.30 lbs

Integrated Oversize BB
The down tube flares at the oversize bottom bracket junction achieving several design goals; adding lateral stiffness without increasing wall thickness, dispersing loads to effectively half the stress on this crucial junction and allowing the down tube to seamlessly carry into the chain stays, further reducing turbulence and creating an additional aero benefit. Additionally the drive side outer diameter of the bottom bracket conveniently accommodates an SRM or Power Meter.

Tapered Headtube
The fork and head tube junction represents an excellent balance between the constraints of creating an aero frame and the need for lateral stiffness. The fork closely resembles a typical 3:1 ratio shape to seamlessly integrate with the head tube and interfaces with the head tube using a 1 1/4" crown bearing, promoting lateral stiffness while maintaining the designated shape of the head tube’s aerodynamic leading edge.

Fuselage Interaction
Every tube in the frame is oriented in relation to the leading edges of the down tube and head tube, as these are the first points of contact for any wind influence. The rear stays are oriented 4
degrees from the seat tube plane to route air from the front triangle around the rear triangle cleanly, and are constructed with a carbon layup that allows for a level of vertical compliance to ensure the bike remains comfortable.

F01 Aero Technology
F01 Technology is based on the theory that a partial airfoil shape without the trailing edge can produce the same aerodynamic advantage as a traditional foil shape. Modern foil shapes are largely based on models and ratios created for airplanes by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), but because bicycles attain speeds far less than those of airplanes, these ratios do not necessarily apply to bikes. Scott Aero Science engineers have thus developed F01 Technology to create unique, bicycle specific tube shapes which maximize aerodynamic efficiency at lower air speeds.

Founded in 1958 by Ed Scott, a talented engineer and competitive skier, the company launched the worlds first tapered aluminium ski pole to universal acclaim, setting a precedent of technical innovation that continues to this day. After moving through motocross the first mountain bike model was launched in 1986, whilst the 1989 Tour De France saw the debut of the aerodynamic handlebar that famously helped Greg Lemond to claim the yellow jersey from the late Laurent Fignon in the legendary final time trial on the cobbles of the Champs-Élysées.
The 1990’s saw Scott establish themselves firmly within the MTB market, with world cup winning forks, the worlds first carbon fibre mountain bike the Endorphin, and the worlds lightest full suspension MTB’s the G-Zero in 98 and Strike in 2000.

Today Scott offers a comprehensive and progressive range of bikes, with all models, from the entry level Aspect or Sportster to the high end Genius LT, Addict and women specific Contessa ranges featuring the most advanced construction techniques, components and materials available. Pioneers of Carbon Fibre in both road and mountain applications; the CR1 and IMP production techniques coupled with exclusive HMF and HMX carbon fibre grades allow for some of the lightest and strongest bikes on the market today, whilst innovative frame design and close links with leading component manufacturers such as DT Swiss ensure that all Scott bikes perform flawlessly at all levels.
