The new Scott Foil 20 boasts a lightweight HMF Carbon Fibre frame which brings the weight of the bike to 8.18kg/17.9lbs. With a bike that is this li9ght you'd think that Scott wouldn't include a good drivetrain, but they have decided to throw Shimano 105 onto the speed demon with an option of a compact drivetrain for those people who don't want/need the 39/53 chainset. And finally finished off with Syncros and Ritchey components to keep the weight down and to give the bike that race orientated look.

Scott have their own team of engineers whose job it is to create the most aerodynamic bikes possible, by experimentation and then scientific testing in wind tunnels and real world conditions.  The outcome is the FOIL; the lightest aero bike out there.  All the tubes are designed with the leading edges facing the wind using the F01 aero shape, with a partial aero shape producing the same effect as a full aero, and the tubes then morphing into the shapes that can give stiffness in the areas that are required, such as the BB area.  Touches like the tapered head tube and integrated seat clamp either add to the stiffness or reduce the drag.
By making the lightest aero, the FOIL is the ideal bike in any scenario within a race, be it climbing with it's lack of weight, descending or sprinting utilising it's stiffness or cutting through the air on the flat.  In fact, Scott's experiments have shown a saving 15 Watts at 45 km/h, resulting in a 4-5% overall gain on a flat course.  Who can argue with that?
