About Wilier The end of WWII and the so called golden age of cycling marked the beginning of a new chapter in the companies history, distinguished by it's red copper-coloured bicycles that sported the name Wilier Triestina. Wilier is an acronym for the phrase “W l’Italia liberata e redenta” which translates as 'long live Italy, liberated and redeemed'. Whilst the suffix Triestina refers to the city of Trieste, home of Wilier's pro team captain at the time Giordano Cottura, a disputed and divided territory after the close of hostilities in 1945 and a prominent symbol of Italian national pride. Like so many other iconic Italian framebuilders, Wilier were forced to shut down in the early 1950's due to migrating public interest and were absent from the market until 1969 when the name was brought back into use. Today the company don't often look backwards, but instead exploit the skill and experience of their design team, in conjunction with industry leading high modulus carbon composites supplied by Mitsubishi and the latest production techniques to produce bikes such as the Cento1 that blend world championship standard performance with pure beauty.
