Fast and light yet capable of handling any trail centre black run, with the Core you can have it all in one UK designed package. Genesis have taken the triple-butted ALX-9 6069-T6 Core 26.4 and 26.5 frames a step further using the geometry tweaks developed while working on the Latitude Ti and 853 to get the best out of the new generation of tapered steerers and thru-axles on light 120mm forks. The definition of UK hardtails is a mix of technical handling ability, comfort and light weight, offering complete all-round performance...The Core series takes this definition to the trail.
Mountain Biking UK Review (2011 Version)
Score: 4.5 / 5
"Blending the lithe ride quality and subtle responses of a cross-country bike with the precise steering and extra strength of a hard-hitting trail bike is a stroke of genius... It’s clear from the first turn of the pedals that the Core 50 is different to the majority of long-travel trail hardtails. With a clear weight advantage, the combination of a svelte frame structure and light, fast-rolling wheels gives the Genesis a sense of urgency that its competition simply can’t match (and the) perfect weight distribution and neutral handling courtesy of a short stem/long top tube combo are the cherry on top. Many reasonably light trail hardtails can claim the same, of course. What makes the Core 50 special is the impressive torsional rigidity of the head tube, fork and front wheel."
The range topping Core 26.5 and 26.4 models use a premium 6069 Aluminium alloy tube set that's selected to offer a smooth and accurate ride at a low weight; Using a higher strength alloy lets the tube walls to be further thinned out (triple butted) to reduce weight whilst maintaining strength - they also feature a tapered headtube to further boost front end rigidity.
Genesis reject curvy, hydroformed fashions in order to have greater control over wall thicknesses and tube integrity, allowing the use a greater range of tube dimensions across different frame sizes than possible if using hydroforming. For a structure that has to cope with forces as varied and dynamic as in a bike frame, the traditional tube is still hard to beat in terms of stiffness to weight balance. Simply tapering or ovalising the main frame tubes in the right places can tune the levels of stiffness in various parts of the frame to deliver a specific ride characteristic - Genesis also use larger diameters and / or thicker walls on larger frames so that everyone gets the right level of stiffness and strength.
Genesis bikes are designed and developed by a small group of riders to fulfil the demands of those who make the UK riding scene one of the most diverse and exciting in the world. With an advantage derived from focusing purely on the UK market allowing Genesis to offer a wide range of complete bikes and framesets that have tangible benefits on home ground.
A bike that's been honed on the steep roads, precipitous mountains or hectic streets of the UK has earned the confidence to take on anything it may come across, anywhere in the world.
Offering bikes that defy categorisation and offer something different, each model is devised to suit a particular riding style or feel. First through prototyping, then frame development and finally production, with lots of riding opportunities throughout the process! This extensive testing makes all their bikes more than the sum of it's parts, one that encourages you to ride that bit more.
