Being the entry into Scott's Genius carbon framed bikes, the 720 27.5 / 650b is great spec and very capable of what you'd it expect it to be, drawing on Scott's decade of experience with the Genius range. Whatever name you want to put on the genre this week, basically this is a bike that swallows up any sort of riding the 'typical' rider can throw at is. Long cross country rides you'll appreciate it's low weight, trail centres you'll appreciate it's good amount of travel to soak up any obstacles, stage races you'll appreciate it's adjustable travel/damping settings to be as fast as possible over any terrain. See, it'll do it all. Fox 34 Talas 27.5 CTD Evo forks are a well proven benchmark for performance in this range, Shimano XT and SLX drivetrain and brakes will give you reliability under all conditions and Syncros wheels and finishing kit bring their expereince in tough, quality products. All-new and completely groundbreaking, the Genius range from Scott has been given a complete rethink over the previous models. The main change is that there are no more small wheels here; 26" wheels have disappeared from the Genius, now leaving 29" (in the 900 range) and 27.5"/650b (in the 700 range). Choose between the better stability and roll-over of the 29" wheel with 130mm travel or the more agile and aggressive 27.5" wheel with 150mm travel. Either one will serve you very well as an ideal trail bike, perfectly suited for marathons and stage races. Both wheel sizes cleverly offer the same rider geometry for each respective frame size, so the same low standover can be achieved.
Full of technology, the Genius is an IMP all-in-one moulded frame for stiffness and low weight, includes a tapered headtube, oversize BB area, internal cable routing, direct post mount rear brake, new forged mono 'U' link and oversize pivots now shared with all the Scott full suspension range.
Interchangeable Dropout System - Super Light (IDS-SL) is a very neat feature that means you can run 142x12mm, 135x12mm or 135x10mm QR rear axles for stiffness and flexibility with wheels.
The chainblocker protects the frame from chainsuck by stopping the chain falling off the inner ring (double or triple chainsets) and an optional adaptor means you can run an ISCG chain device with a single or double chainset.
Unique to Scott in the trail bike sector, the Genius offers geometry adjustment in the linkage. Just flip around the shock mount and you can adjust the BB height by 6mm and the head angle by 0.4deg for steeper or slacker geometry. Image for illustration only.
