About Scott
Q & A

Scott's Sportster X40 is a great value trekking/commuting hybrid with quality components to get you out on the road or track in comfort.  It can provide a good turn of speed when the mood takes you, but the emphasis is on taking in the scenery at leisure, with it's upright position and comfortable saddle and grips.

Borrowing a lot of it's components from the mountain bike world, they are all sturdy and reliable, ready for work.  The Shimano Alivio/Acera used for drivetrain are soild, great value performers.  The M395 hydraulic disc brakes take care of the stopping and are proven performers, with good power and modulation.  They remain out of the way of mud and water, so will keep working long after rim brakes would be clogged up.

Suntour's NEX MLO suspension forks smooth out the bumps in the road or track efficiently while keeping the weight low.  A handy feature is that they can be locked out completely to stop the suspension action if you are riding on smooth roads and don't want them bouncing.  The tyres are designed for fast transport around city streets or on tracks and towpaths and will make the going easy while offering plenty of grip where needed.

The Sportster range emphasizes comfort and efficiency for trekking or commuting, so they are ideal to get to work on or for a weekend away exploring new places along towpaths.  They have traditional hybrid gearing with a high ratio chainring at the front for making fast progress on the road and low gears to get you out of trouble if you hit a particularly steep bit of off-road trail.  All are designed to be a light as possible with their alloy double butted frames, while comfort is taken care of by their lightweight suspension forks and comfort saddles and grips.  All with a leisurely riding position that means you can enjoy the sights rather than race to the finish line.

Also available in low frame ladies version.

Founded in 1958 by Ed Scott, a talented engineer and competitive skier, the company launched the worlds first tapered aluminium ski pole to universal acclaim, setting a precedent of technical innovation that continues to this day. After moving through motocross the first mountain bike model was launched in 1986, whilst the 1989 Tour De France saw the debut of the aerodynamic handlebar that famously helped Greg Lemond to claim the yellow jersey from the late Laurent Fignon in the legendary final time trial on the cobbles of the Champs-Élysées.
The 1990’s saw Scott establish themselves firmly within the MTB market, with world cup winning forks, the worlds first carbon fibre mountain bike the Endorphin, and the worlds lightest full suspension MTB’s the G-Zero in 98 and Strike in 2000.

Today Scott offers a comprehensive and progressive range of bikes, with all models, from the entry level Aspect or Sportster to the high end Genius LT, Addict and women specific Contessa ranges featuring the most advanced construction techniques, components and materials available. Pioneers of Carbon Fibre in both road and mountain applications; the CR1 and IMP production techniques coupled with exclusive HMF and HMX carbon fibre grades allow for some of the lightest and strongest bikes on the market today, whilst innovative frame design and close links with leading component manufacturers such as DT Swiss ensure that all Scott bikes perform flawlessly at all levels.
